Vic: Major fires burning in Victoria
MAJOR FIRES
Alps.
Location: North-eastern Victoria.
Burned: 132,000 hectares
Threatens residents in the Upper Buckland Valley, Mount Buffalo and Lake Buffalo today.
Holiday home lost at Rose River today.
Dargo.
Location: Gippsland, north west of Bairnsdale.
Burned: 45,000 hectares.
Heading towards Dargo. This fire is close to communities in the Dargo valley including
Waterford, Castleburn, Crooked River and Wonnangatta.
Woods Point/Kevington/Gaffneys Creek
Location: South of Mansfield.
Burned: 22,000 hectares.
Towns under threat include Tolmie, Mt Buller, Merijig, Kevington, Gaffneys Creek, A1
Mine Settlement, Knockwood, Jamieson and Woods Point.
Heyfield Complex.
Location: Gippsland, north of Traralgon.
Burned: 23,000 hectares.
A potential risk for the Licola, Glenmaggie and Heyfield areas.
The most significant fires are at Blanket Wood, Mt Ligar and Mt Hump. These fires represent
a potential risk to the Glenmaggie and Heyfield areas.
Bright.
Location: North-eastern Victoria.
Burned: 600 hectares
Residents in Germantown, Freeburgh, parts of Mt Beauty and Snowy Creek area under threat.
Stonyford.
Location: Near Camperdown, south-west of Melbourne.
Burned: 900 hectares
Residents in the Hawk Nest Road and Stonyford areas were under threat. Fire now contained.
One home lost.
