Fed: Proposal for an indigenous art national data-base

A Senate committee's heard the federal government should adopt a national online database
system .. to crack down on indigenous art fraud.

Under the plan .. from the company IdenteArt .. art work will be tracked with micro-dots
the size of sand .. encrypted with code containing the artist's name .. the gallery or
art centre it came from .. as well as an image of the art.

Indigenous arts and craft is a growing industry in Australia and overseas .. but counterfeit
art poses an economic threat to indigenous artists and communities.

The inquiry into Australia's indigenous arts and craft sector .. is looking at ways
of addressing the lack of regulation and exploitive practices in the industry.
